a trembling breath

blocks of stone that never move

rippling sands you can hear behind the wall

there’s clusters of sound crawling through wide open fields

and the nervous chattering of fingers that don’t know what they do

as the typewriter continues to clatter

the hiss of a rat tears the city apart

rumbling deep beneath the ground

sometimes there’s a gentle stroke of a hand

a bang on the bellow, a bellow that shakes

a huff, a puff
